Christmas Message from the President

Dear Swimmers

It’s been a great year to be involved in Masters Swimming.

Membership has continued to grow and the trend for increased entries at the sanctioned meets also continues.

It’s been heartening to see the resurgence of existing clubs and interest from new members.

Despite the relatively short notice, Taupo hosted a flawless North Island Short Course Championships. The location was perfect for a family weekend and the meet itself ran like a well-oiled machine. They showed us how to organise a carnival that was of a very high technical standard while still being friendly and fun.

In the South Island, the Ashburton club continue to do great work. Once again, they hosted the South Island Short Course Championships and they have added some open water events to their calendar.

In the pool, the year culminated with an outstanding National Championship at the Sir Owen Glenn pool in Albany. The venue was superb and produced swimming to match – in all, nearly 60 records were broken. Our National Recorder, Jan O’Donnell has been kept busy.

Our thanks and congratulations to the North Shore club for hosting such a premium event.

Also it was great to see the interest and involvement from Swimming NZ.

With World Masters Games being held in Auckland, 2017 will be a big year for Masters Swimming. Good luck to our many members that have entered and are training hard towards this meet. Let’s continue the momentum beyond WMG and keep on growing the membership.

And a big thank you to all of our members for continuing to support Masters Swimming in NZ.

Thanks to all of you that have helpfully provided feedback during the year – keep it coming, it all helps.

From the NZMS executive, we wish you and your families a very merry and safe Christmas.

John Fisher NZMS President
