Reports

Presidents Report 2015 AGM - John Fisher

This has been John’s first year in his role as President of NZMS and he was faced with the challenges
of a cancelled South Island Short Course meeting hosted by Foveaux Masters, a National Long Course meeting hosted finally by Dunedin Masters for a second consecutive year and a North Island Short Course Meeting hosted at short notice by Whakatane Masters. A priority now is to encourage more masters clubs to host meetings in the future and to have early confirmation of hosting. “Early bird” registrations for these meetings are to be encouraged by offering an entry fee discount to these swimmers.

John was invited to the launch party of the 2017 World Masters Games to be held in Auckland and this represents a great opportunity for NZMS to attract new members even though there is no requirement to be a member of NZMS to compete in the swimming section of these Games.

John is also aiming to visit as many large clubs as he can to present himself and to discuss such issues as coaching for Masters swimmers and personal recognition for swimmers.

Secretary and Financial Report - Mike Bodger

The financial review for 2014 was completed by EBA Ltd Rotorua and circulated to the executive, officers and delegates prior to the AGM. Accounting fees totalled $1,000. The net surplus stood at $4,629.

The balance stood at $52,801, up from $48,172 in 2013. The cheque account balance was $10,289.03 at January 1st 2014 and $12,386.48 at January 1st 2015. The Fast Saver account balance was $637.09 at January 1st 2014 and $654.34 at January 1st 2015. And the Savings Plus account balance was $37,978.09 at January 1st 2014 and on January 1st 2015 the balance was $39,595.27 Once again NZMS should be in a positive financial position at the end of the year.

Although the NZMS Constitution requires the accounts to be audited, at the present time the accounts are just reviewed. As an Incorporated society NZMS is only required to have their accounts reviewed and not audited. The committee voted not to audit the accounts this year.

For 2014, NZMS had 44 “active” clubs (1 or more financial swimmer) and 638 financial swimmers.
