Katrina Price Has Conquered Lake Taupo And Now Gets Ready To Take On The World's Longest Open Water Swim

Kaueranga Valley River where they regularly train
It's been over a year since Kat's epic swim of 40.2km across Lake Taupo on 15 February 2014 (click here to read the article) so what has she been up to since?

Well....training for the world's longest open water swim, of course!  Katrina has been preparing to participate in the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim in New York which covers a distance of 193.8 kms in 7 days from 7 - 14 June 2015.  There are 7 stages and each stage covers a distance between 21.2 kms and 31.9 kms

The 7 stages

1st stage is a 29.5km swim
2nd stage is a 31.9km swim
3rd stage is a 21.2km swim
4th stage is a  24.1km swim
5th stage is a 31.9km swim
6th stage is a 25.3km swim
7th stage is a 29.9km swim

It is the first time that a New Zealand team will be entering this epic swimming odyssey.  Team members are: Katrina Price who'll be swimming 6 stages; Heather Osbourne she'll be swimming 3 stages; Garth Ingle and Kevin Price will both be swimming 1 stage.

Katrina:  "Its going to be a big learning adventure as no New Zealanders have entered this race before. So hopefully we will be able to pass on our experience to future swimmers.

When I decided to take on this challenge I knew I couldn't do it alone. That's when I asked swim coach Phillip Rush to help me out and we are also very lucky to have the knowledge from our team mate Heather, who is a very experienced marathon swimmer and knows the area we will be racing well.

We have all been training very hard. No wetsuits are allowed for this swim so it makes it a little more challenging for some of us. But when June comes our team will be ready to take on the 8 Bridges Hudson River Marathon Swim."

We wish you all the best, Kat, Heather, Garth and Kevin make New Zealand proud!
