What Katrina Has To Say About Her Epic 40.2km Swim, Photos and More.....

Congratulations Katrina, you've done it!  You are officially a legend and inspiration to us all.

Katrina's swim was scheduled to start at 3am on Saturday 15 February 2014, but due to poor weather conditions she finally kicked off at 1am on the morning of Sunday 16 February and finished at 3.45pm that afternoon. Katrina is the 14th woman to have completed this epic 40.2km swim from Turangi to Taupo.

During Katrina's swim the weather conditions changed from calm to rough and the most challenging part of her race was battling the cold, she was given hot water to drink to warm her up. Katrina said that she loved every minute of the swim and when you love swimming as much as she does pain does not matter.

Katrina in her own words: " My journey as a marathon swimmer has been one I will never forget. What an amazing day, all the waiting and nerves were worth it. The sun shone and the wind was kind to me, although I did struggle with being cold for most of the day, but I managed to pull through the bad patches. I was so glad to have completed a lot of other endurance events that helped prepare me for the mental battle I had to face. I believe I couldn't have done it without the support of my family, friends and coach Phillip Rush who was by my side the whole day. Now Lake Taupo is ready for another challenger."

To the left is a picture of Katrina (a day or so after her big swim), at the blocks of her local swimming hole in Thames.  This is where her passion for swimming first began using a diving mask and snorkel.  Katrina said she enjoyed her time resting but had to get back into the water for a little aqua jog.  You never know, maybe one of those young faces looking up at her in awe,  will be New Zealand's next swimming legend.

Well done Katrina,  we can't wait to find out what your next big adventure is going to be.
